Alecia Nicole

I’m Alecia, a Front-End Developer and User Experience Designer who’s been coding since 2005, with 6 years of professional experience. I create thoughtfully designed, research-driven interfaces using modern development techniques. I’m a city girl at heart; I lived in Chicago and New York before moving to Grand Rapids, MI where I currently reside. I’m looking for my next big adventure!

Are you looking for someone who stays humble but hustles hard? Someone who gets as geeked about researching experience design minutiae as they do about the latest true crime series on Netflix? Someone who will bring the office donuts and DJ from Spotify during crunch time work sessions? If so, I would make a great addition to your team! I believe that personality is just as important as professional experience when it comes to matching a companies culture. In the spirit of finding a natural fit, here’s everything you may want to know about me, and then some!

Get To Know Me

Feel free to use these ice breakers at your next work party. Here are my answers!

What is your most used emoji?
:rolling on the floor laughing: I laugh a lot, sometimes when it’s inappropriate.

Would you rather be able to speak every language in the world or be able to talk to animals?
I’m a dog person so this answer is obvious… I would 100% rather talk to animals! Talking to my dogs would finally be socially acceptable if they could talk back. Who’s a good boy?

What are the 10 things that you could not live without?

Without listing the obvious things like food, water, and family, here goes:

  1. My bike — I ride it pretty much everywhere whenever possible.

  2. My jeep — It gets me anywhere my bike wont.

  3. My laptop — It’s pretty essential to my craft.

  4. Coffee — Drip, pour over, cold brew, Keurig; I prefer good coffee but I’m not a snob. I take mine black.

  5. Plants — My apartment is full of them. Right now I’m obsessed with rubber plants.

  6. Kombucha — My favorite is Michigan made by Cultured Kombucha Co.

  7. My subscriptions — Dropbox / Spotify / Hulu (Is this cheating?)

  8. Adobe Creative Suite — mainly Experience Design. It’s my most frequently used tool.

  9. Leggings — yes, I like to be comfortable.

  10. Tacos — my favorite food.

What’s your favorite sandwich and why?
Pork Meatball Banh Mi, because it’s delicious. It’s also one of my favorite dishes to bring to a party because everyone loves it. I’m a bit of a foodie and cooking is my second passion. If I had to choose another career outside of web development, it would definitely be one where I’m in a kitchen!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A marine biologist. I’m still fascinated by deep-sea creatures, but the thought of open-water swimming terrifies me.

If you had one year of paid time off and could do anything, what would you do?
I would draw more and create things! I love illustrating and rarely have the chance to create anything with my hands. I have a home studio which I’ve been making an effort to spend more time in lately. I would love to start a company selling buttons and clothing with my illustrations as a side project; It’s one of my personal goals for 2019. Aside from that, I would keep working on volunteer web projects and brush up on my dev skills on Treehouse. Gotta stay sharp!

How I Think

I try to avoid putting myself in a box because, well, boxes are small and uncomfortable; they don’t allow for growth and change. On the other hand, boxes can be helpful for organization. If you like boxes, here are a couple that I fit into.

Myers–Briggs Type

Extraverted feeling, introverted intuition, extraverted sensing, and introverted thinking.

Kolbe A Index

I’m a Fact Finder with a side of Implementer, fantastic at researching and strategizing.

My 2018 Quantified Self

My 2018 Wrapped

This year I streamed 16,590 minutes of content on Spotify. I have pretty eclectic tastes and listened to non-mainstream artists 60% more than the average user. My favorite artist was Rex Orange County.
